Stress Relief Tips For Busy Salespeople

Not all stress is bad, but when it’s bad, it can mess with your mind, your body, your work, and even the people around you. When you feel stressed, it’s because your brain is noticing a threat and is releasing cortisol, a hormone that increases your heart rate, blood flow, and overall alertness. It’s a perfectly natural biological response that can sometimes be a good thing. Stress and anxiety can help motivate you to work harder – but too much stress can backfire and slow you down.

Learning how to manage your stress is a good way to push yourself forward and become better at what you do.

The Effects Of Stress On The Human Body

Stress is not a purely mental phenomenon. Stress has physical and often detrimental effects on the human body which often begin with insomnia. When you’re stressed, you have a harder time sleeping. When you lose sleep, you feel more stressed. It’s a vicious cycle.

With your stress and lack of sleep comes less of a desire to eat healthily and exercise. Plus, stress increases your heart rate, which can be highly dangerous if sustained for long periods of time. Stress can also weaken your immune system, which can make it easier for you to get sick, which can then make you feel more stressed because you are less able to get your work done!

On the mental and emotional side, stress can make you more susceptible to anxiety and depression disorders.

Stress Relief Tips:

Stress creates an unfortunate vicious cycle, which is why it is so important for you to learn how to manage it when it starts. The minute you feel yourself starting to get stressed, take a deep breath, and follow some of these stress relief tips:

Change Your Diet

Did you know that your diet can have a big impact on your stress level? It’s no secret that healthier foods can make you feel better. Foods that are high in antioxidants, like berries and dark, leafy greens, can help you fight off the cortisol hormone. If you’re a big fan of sweets, dark chocolate (in moderation) can actually have the same effect.

Foods that are high in carbohydrates and fats can slow you down and increase your stress level. Just add stress to your list of reasons to eat healthy!

Better Sleep & Exercise

While it may seem obvious, the better your sleep patterns are, the less stressed you’ll feel. Figure out how many hours of sleep per night you truly need to function, and aim to get at least that. Most adults need between 7-9 hours of sleep each night, but every body is different.

On the same token, focus on how you are releasing your energy. Make sure to take breaks and relax at various points throughout the day, but also consider scheduling daily workouts. They don’t have to be focused on weight loss or muscle toning, they can just be a way for you to release some energy and take a break.

Work-life Balance

If you don’t have a good work-life balance, you’ll start to feel stress in your work and your personal life. Make room in your schedule to spend time with your loved ones, practice your hobbies, clean your house, or cook dinner – even if you have to actually schedule it in your calendar.

Acceptance

One of the best but least-practiced ways to reduce stress is to accept the things you cannot change. If you have too many tasks, but they are all necessary, accept it instead of complaining about it. Take your stressful energy and use it to get the job done, instead of wasting time and procrastinating, which eventually will cause more stress.
