How To Lead With Character

The mission of our company is to serve the under-served senior and Medicare eligible adult population. To serve this generation with dignity. And to serve this community with honor and respect. It takes a person with an unwavering set of qualities to embrace the business principles that have defined who we are and what we’ve become. We frequently how to lead with character. We will not tolerate anything less than choosing our thoughts and actions based on values rather than personal gain.

According to Jeff Pitta, CEO & Founder of SMA; integrity is the one thing that can and has contributed to the growth of his company. Integrity and character traits go hand in hand.  One can’t exist without the other. Adopting all these values is what it takes to lead with character.

Caring With Character

Our agents and staff members know that taking shortcuts is not a principle that we embrace. We will present appropriate products and services to our clients. We’ll insist on giving our clients the full range of choices that make the most sense for them.

“We will do what is best in the clients’ best interest, regardless of personal gain.” – Jeff Pitta

Serving With Character

In our culture today, the examples of groups and organizations that have run off the rails due to a lack of a moral compass are too endless to list. From banking and finance to government and entertainment industries, we’ve been overloaded with news of another crisis or scandal.

Recently, we watched the very public resignation of a top leader from a national financial institution. We noted in one of our articles on Integrity that the CEO in the example above stepped down amid news that fake accounts had been established to mislead key stakeholders. The reputation of this large company is now tainted, their promises for integrity broken and core values fractured.

Producing With Character

How do we stay true to our core values while meeting our strategic goals? How do we lead with character? It has been said that character is what you do or who you are when no one is watching.  While we can’t be everywhere at all times, we pledge that our agents and team members will adhere to our sales guidelines:

  • We promise to treat clients with respect and dignity and honor their time
  • Our team members will listen carefully to the needs of the client
  • We practice empathy in responding to our clients’ objections
  • The presentation will include all available and appropriate plans
  • We ensure that gaps in coverage are presented to all clients
  • Agents will place the most suitable product regardless of compensation

We pledge to lead with character and produce with character. We aren’t perfect, but we promise to hold our code of integrity high for everyone to see.
